About the Item
Original Cenedese Milky White Plate in Murano Glass with Flowers Italy 1990s
Entirely handcrafted in the 1990s according to the ancient techniques of glassblowing in the Venetian island of Murano, this serving plate is an original production of the renowned Italian glassmaker Cenedese. The authenticity of the item is certified by the hand-carved signature of the artist on the bottom of the plate, which is also guarantee of high quality workmanship.
Consisting of milky white glass, this serving plate is decorated using the complex technique of the so-called “submerged glass”, that’s to say that glass of different colours is added to the main body of glass while this is still hot and therefore malleable. This is used to create layers of glass of different colours or colourful figures, as it is the case of this service plate, in which small, colourful flowers and their stems are embedded in its centre. This technique ensures that the decoration doesn’t fade over time, as it is enclosed within the glass. Simple to the eye but complex in its workmanship this serving plate, thanks to its clean design, is an everyday item, but also suitable for decorating the table on special occasions.
