Timeless glass sculpture ''Sail '' by Giorgio Berlini, Cristal arte 1970's

About the Item

Marine glass sculpture ''Sail ''by Giorgio Berlini, Cristal Arte G.B. made in Italy . 1970 Designer Ghirò was working since 1996 for the artist Berlini and when Berlini retired Ghirò studio managed to keep the company working under the name of Ghirò studio. The natural crystal has high transparencies with aquamarine reflections, it has been curved and handmade to represent a sail. Every sail is a real artistic sculpture. Each crystal is exclusive and unique as it has been entirely handcrafted starting from a block of crystal. This makes impossible to create two perfectly identical. The wind inflated sail is a symbol of travel, discovering yourself as well as the power of action that allows you to reach your goals. It is perfect gift to wish a life full of satisfaction or right detail to complete the environment with an object of timeless charm. Giorgio Berlini was born in Milan in 1931. During his adolescence, he attended the Gonzaga middle school, and then enrolled at the Carlo Cattaneo Institute for Surveyors in Milan. Thanks to his exceptional artistic talent, he spent several years at the Brera Academy under the guidance of masters Francesco Messina and Marino Marini. He began his career working with glass at the renowned glassworks in Empoli, also in Milan. After a year of employment as an employee, in 1949 he decided to start his own business, founding his own company. To obtain this autonomy, he had to receive authorization from the Court of Milan, as he was still a minor. Initially, Berlini's activity focused on cutting and engraving glasses, a form of processing that essentially aimed at the quality of the product. After a few years, however, Berlini decided to make a change in his work as an engraver, dedicating himself instead to the "secondary processing of sheet crystal". From that moment on, his company specialized in the production of crystals for chandeliers, home furnishings and bathrooms, and partly in industrial glass, such as flat and curved glass. The number of employees grew to about twenty. Despite the expansion of the company, Berlini always maintained a high level of workmanship, managing to form a team of extremely competent collaborators. Under his guidance, even revolutionary innovations were introduced in the field of actual grinding. The result of 25 years of commitment and study of glass has allowed Berlini to create true works of art, authentic sculptures obtained from blocks of glass and crystal. The first successes were not long in coming: from his first exhibition in 1974 at the Galleria Nuovo Sagittario in Milan, Berlini achieved great success. Many of his works are now preserved in museums or private collections in various countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Brazil and Switzerland. In 1973, Berlini was named Knight of Merit of the Republic and in 1993 he received a Certificate of Merit from the municipality of Milan on the occasion of the traditional feast of St. Ambrose.
