About the Item
18th Century Japanese Porcelain Imari Barber's Bowl,
There is a pair to this dish available separately.
This 18th-century Japanese Imari barber's bowl, dating circa 1720, presents a classic oval form with the characteristic demi-lune cut-out on its rim. The interior is lavishly decorated in the vibrant Imari palette of iron red, blue, and gold. The central well features a woody glade within which a grouping of chrysanthemums is depicted, with trees and foliage extending behind. The border showcases five distinct panels, each enclosing various flowering plants, all set within an underglaze dark blue band adorned with orange chrysanthemums and gold leaves. The exterior displays three clusters of three chrysanthemums on underglaze blue stems, and a delicate blue line encircles the foot.
