About the Item

18th Century Naples Porcelain Grand Tour Topographical Tureen A rare and exceptional 18th-century Neapolitan porcelain covered tureen, likely from the Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea, unmarked. Finely hand-painted with a series of oval topographical vedute, each depicting iconic Roman and southern Italian ruins, framed in gilt and set against a crisp white ground with cobalt blue borders. The lid is crowned with a beautifully modeled and polychrome-painted figure of a seated child, adding sculptural charm and classical symbolism. Elegant scrolled handles with subtle gilt flourishes complete the piece. This tureen would have been created as a souvenir for a wealthy Grand Tour traveler, celebrating classical antiquity and the cultural legacy of Italy. While unmarked, the quality of painting, figural work, and form strongly support attribution to Naples. A museum-worthy decorative object that bridges neoclassical refinement with historic narrative, perfect as a centerpiece, collector's cabinet highlight, or display in a scholarly interior.
