A Chinese Porcelain Bowl for Export, Qing Period

About the Item

This porcelain bowl is a piece of great delicacy and sophistication, possibly of oriental origin, inspired by the Chinese tradition of the Qing period (18th-19th century). Decoration characterized by naturalistic motifs, representing flowering branches, delicate leaves, butterflies and birds, all in vibrant shades of yellow, red, pink, green and black. The composition is asymmetrical, following the aesthetics of traditional Chinese painting, where natural elements are arranged in a fluid and organic way. The meticulously painted flowers feature petals in shades of pink and red, while the branches are represented with fine, sinuous lines, giving the piece a realistic appearance. The yellow and green details create a beautiful contrast, highlighting the liveliness of the decor. Butterflies delicately painted in yellow and orange appear fluttering around the flowers, a frequent symbolic element in Chinese art, representing transformation and happiness. In the lower corner, an elegant bird with red and yellow plumage rests on a flowering branch, reinforcing the serene and harmonious atmosphere of the design. The white porcelain background further highlights the colorful details of the painting, providing a refined visual balance. The pictorial style used in this piece refers to the "famille rose" technique, a type of polychrome enamel highly valued in Chinese export porcelain. Cups like this were often commissioned by European collectors and aristocrats, fascinated by oriental aesthetics. In addition to its practical function, the piece also served as an object of luxury and status, highlighting the artistic exchange between China and the West. Expense, restoration and small beauties.
