Chinese Porcelain Plate for Export, Blue Decoration
About the Item
Chinese porcelain plate for export. Blue and white decoration, representing a river landscape, with plant motifs, boats, bridge and pagoda. Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795).
In the centre of the plate is a detailed bucolic scene, with pagodas, pavilions and a serene landscape full of trees and aquatic elements. A bridge with a figure to be crossed connects two banks where small boats sail along a calm river, while birds fly in the distance, bringing a sense of movement and life.
The rim of the plate features intricate floral decoration, with arabesques that skilfully frame the central scene, and the use of intense blue creates a striking visual contrast against the white background, highlighting the delicate contours of the design.
Pieces like this were frequently commissioned by the East India Company and were valued both for their beauty and their craftsmanship.
