Chinese Porcelain Plate, Imari

About the Item

Plate, in Chinese porcelain for export, Imari. Polychrome decoration in blue, rouge de fer and gold, with a landscape with pagoda, flowers and trees. Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795). The central decoration depicts an idealized Chinese landscape, a theme much appreciated in the West. The scene features a pagoda surrounded by a garden with flowering trees, stylized mountains and a geometric fence. Small birds and butterflies fly over the composition, symbolizing harmony and prosperity. The use of deep blue for contours and shading contrasts with the red, orange and pink details of the flowers and foliage. The rim of the plate is richly ornamented with a continuous floral pattern, interspersed with arabesques and small decorative dots. The use of gold and orange tones over the deep blue adds a touch of sophistication and refinement. This type of design is characteristic of 18th-century export porcelain produced in Jingdezhen, China's main porcelain manufacturing center. During the 18th century, porcelains like this were highly valued in Europe, imported through the Dutch East India Company. This dish represents an excellent example of the artistic exchange between East and West. Chips.
