Imari porcelain oval serving dish - Japan, Edo period - 19th century
About the Item
A large porcelain oval serving dish, finely decorated with classical hand-painted iron red and cobalt blue patterns enhanced with fine gold : flowers, leaves and fantastic animals including dragons.
Two marks underneath.
Japan, Imari production (Arita porcelain) for European import, 19th century. The complex patterns and deep colors suggest an Edo period production for the European market, circa 1830 - 1850.
Refined large piece in very good condition : colors have remained bright ; the dish has no accident, gilt is a little attenuated.
