About the Item

The Coat-of-Arms on this Chinese Export armorial are for the Marchesi di Sorbello from a service ordered by Uguccione III Bourbon del Monte, 12th Marquis Regent of Sorbello (1737-1816). He was the son of Guiseppe I (1690-1747) a successful and important diplomat for the King of Sardinia. Uguccione acquired the Palazzo Bourbon di Sorbello in Piazza Piccinino, Perugia, which he filled with fine art and objects, including this service, much of which remains there today. The rectangular dish with canted corners has a large band of floral swag decoration on the wide border with an unusual inner border design in gilt of stylized flowerheads. The centre of the dish is decorated with the coat-of-arms of the Marchesi di Sorbello. At the back are drums and flags. At the top is a crown above an armoured helmet. To the right is a lion rampant in white enamel on a white ground.
