Nymphenburg Frankenthal Figurine 'Lady With Bird Cage' by Johann Friedrich Lück

About the Item

Very rare figurine from the former manufacturer Frankenthal Germany. The lady, dressed in Rococo style: white dress with flowered bodice and apron, white bonnet, is holding an open birdcage with her right hand, propped up on her hip. The bird sits on her left while she looks up to the left with her head slightly tilted. The figure is based on a flat, rounded Rocailles base with gold heightening. It is the counterpart to the cavalier with little bird. Johann Friedrich LÜCK (1727-1797) Sculptor and modeller; until 1741 in Meissen, until 1758 in Höchst, until 1764 in Frankenthal. The Model was created around 1760. History of the model: On May 26, 1755, the Strasbourg porcelain manufacturer Paul Hannong received the privilege of setting up a porcelain factory in the Frankenthal Dragoons barracks from Electoral Prince Carl Theodor (Palatinate and Bavaria). Up to 100 people were employed in the factory. Of all the large German manufacturers, Frankenthal has the shortest service life. Production stopped in 1799. The owner Johann Nepomuk van Recum took molds to Grünstadt and opened the Grünstadt earthenware factory there. The official end of manufacturing was May 27, 1800 by a decree of the Bavarian Electoral Prince. In the 44 years of its existence, however, it has proven to be one of the most important porcelain manufacturers in Germany. After the electoral court was relocated to Munich and the manufacture was closed in 1799, numerous molds were transferred to the Nymphenburg manufacture. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, these forms were reproduced here. They are provided with the CT mark in underglaze blue and the Nymphenburg diamond shield.
