About the Item

A very fine plate, damasked with Gotzkowsky erhaben Blumen. Decorated after the Japanese with peonies and a coiled phoenix to the centre, using the Kakiemon palette. The coiled phoenix is a traditional design that appears on various forms of Asian art, including porcelain. The phoenix is a mythical bird that is said to be able to regenerate itself and rise from the ashes, making it a symbol of rebirth and renewal. The bird is associated with good fortune and is believed to bring good luck to those who possess it. In Asian art, the coiled phoenix is often depicted alongside other symbols of good luck, such as dragons and peonies. It is often seen on porcelain vases, plates, and other decorative items.

A large platter, probably once associated with tureen. Beautiful flower painting, possible done outside the factory at the Giles studio in London, or perhaps at the Chelsea studio by a painter who had previously worked there. The tulip, heartease, and others look very Giles. One of the most distinctive features of Chelsea porcelain is its intricate floral painting, which often featured detailed, lifelike renditions of flowers and other botanical subjects. The factory employed skilled artists who were trained in the art of flower...
