About the Item

This is a circular pot in the rare, hand painted "Lily Orange" Pattern by the renowned Art Deco designer Clarice Cliff. This piece dates to 1929, having the transitional period "Fantasque" mark which only lasted for a few years, from 1929. The Lily Orange pattern was Fantasque pattern number 104 and was only briefly produced before being replaced with a more sophisticated design. We like this original design for its simplicity. The black printed stamp on the back is the Fantasque mark as used by the factory at this time. Fantasque pieces were only produced for a short period from 1929 to 1934 and are fully recorded. please see the book "Clarice Cliff - The Bizarre Affair" written by Griffin & Meisel, published in 1988 by Thames and Hudson Ltd, London. Overall a very striking early and genuine piece by this fantastic Art Deco designer. We are not sure if this piece might have had a lid originally, but a very striking piece either way. Just a personal Note!! We never get tired of buying early Clarice pieces like this, as they are just as fresh today in their design aspirations, as they were when they were produced in the 20s /30s.
