About the Item

A monumental vessel by Elena Karina. Karina held the positions of Craft coordinator (1974-1978) at the National Endowment for The Arts, and special assistant for the arts to the office of the vice president, the white house (1978-80). This piece was acquired directly from the estate. Karina's work can be seen in private and public collections throughout the US, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Oakland Museum, and the permanent collection of the Smithsonian, Washington, DC. PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT A SET OF 2 PIECES, THIS IS ONE SINGULAR VASE. This piece also comes with a signed booklet from Karina "The Sense of the Sea," which features many images of Karina's incredible work. Please note: The vessel has not been broken or repaired, after careful examination, it's clear that Karina assembled this vessel by creating two separate pieces and molding them together, then glazing and finishing. The vessel stands an incredible 22" Tall and 22" x 22" at the wisest points of the sculpture. At the rim of the piece, the diameter is 12.".

Willy Guhl 31" Adjustable 2 Piece Concrete Planter, Switzerland, 1960's
By Willy Guhl
Located in Culver City, CA
Iconic Willy Guhl Planter for Eternit, 1960s – A Cement Celebrity Here we go again, folks—another jaw-dropping Willy Guhl planter for Eternit, straight from the 1960s and brimming with all those modernist vibes. This two-piece stunner is serving serious I-woke-up-like-this energy with its perfectly imperfect patina that whispers, “I’ve seen some things, darling.” Sure, you could scrub it down to look fresh-out-of-the-box new, but why? This weathered look is like vintage leather or a classic movie star—it gets better with age, and trust us, nobody is asking for a makeover. The planter features Guhl’s signature silhouette: a big, bold bowl (31.25" in diameter!) resting atop a truncated cone base. It’s modular magic—position the bowl flat and grounded, or tilt it just so for that effortlessly off-kilter, “yes, I have a design degree” aesthetic. As shown here, it measures a statuesque 16" tall, just the right height to command attention without stealing the limelight from your botanical besties. Whether gracing a sunny patio, lounging poolside at a Hollywood mansion, or bringing its rugged-chic charm indoors, this planter is pure Swiss sophistication. It’s not just a planter; it’s a moment. Who Was Willy Guhl? Oh, you haven’t heard? Willy Guhl (1915–2004) was the OG of modern outdoor design. This Swiss genius pioneered the use of fiber cement, creating pieces that were as indestructible as they were elegant. His work with Eternit was groundbreaking (literally), marrying sculptural forms with functional durability. Guhl believed design should live harmoniously with nature—a philosophy you’ll see in every timeless curve and tilt of his creations. TL;DR: This planter is everything you want—chic, rare, collectible, and packed with history. Snag it now, because let’s face it, everyone else wants it too. 🌵 Within the photos is another Guhl planter, same size and design (diff planter), photographed with a Paola Lenti outdoor...

Brutalist Ceramic and Bronze Female Bust "Study on A Female Body", 1970s
Located in Culver City, CA
This sculpture is provocative and gorgeous. When we acquired this piece, we were told it was called "Study on a Female Body" and that it had been in the gentleman's office since he first opened in the 1970's. The sculpture is anatomically correct and features a female torso arching back and has large pieces of attached brutalist bronze pieces that protrude almost evocative of wings to create some sort of angelic aspect to the piece. It's both brutal / crude, but so elegantly executed and really is just a stunning piece. From the naval to the articulated spine, the attention to detail was masterfully executed on this sculpture. The sculpture sits upon a steel rod, which is mounted to a stone block. The piece is signed illegibly on the stone. A wonderful piece that would really look great in any type of modern environment. Would be great as an entryway sculpture...
