About the Item

A rare and charming Edwardian-style honey pot in the shape of a bee, crafted in silver plate and ruby red glass by the esteemed English silversmith Mappin & Webb, circa 1960. This whimsical and highly decorative piece features a finely detailed silver-plated body with textured legs and articulated wings that lift to reveal a deep ruby glass reservoir designed to hold honey. A matching silver-plated spoon is cleverly nestled between the wings for serving. The underside is stamped “Mappin & Webb,” “Mappin Plate,” “London & Sheffield,” along with the model number W11518, confirming its authenticity and origin. Though produced around 1960, the piece reflects the refined aesthetics of the Edwardian period, showcasing Mappin & Webb’s legacy of exceptional craftsmanship. Founded in 1775 in Sheffield and later expanded in partnership with George Webb in 1862, Mappin & Webb became a symbol of British luxury and held a Royal Warrant as silversmiths to the Crown. This delightful bee-shaped honey pot is both a functional table accessory and a collectible objet d’art, ideal for lovers of fine silver, animal-themed design, or unique vintage curiosities. Excellent vintage condition with original patina preserved.
