About the Item

A striking example of 19th-century American silverwork, this elegant silver bowl was crafted in New York by noted silversmith W. Adams, whose refined craftsmanship is beautifully displayed in this richly decorated vessel. The body of the bowl is lavishly chased with a profusion of realistic floral and foliate motifs, executed with remarkable depth and naturalism. The leaves and blossoms appear to burst organically from the surface, their lively movement and sculptural presence lending the piece a sense of vitality and ornamental exuberance. The floral decoration wraps seamlessly around the vessel, offering beauty from every angle. The bowl is raised on four elegantly scrolled feet, each formed in the manner of classic C-scrolls, gracefully curving outward to support the rounded body with a light, almost airy elegance. These feet, both functional and decorative, echo the Rococo-inspired sensibilities that influenced much of the finest American silver design during the mid to late 19th century.
