A magnificent, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English sterling silver sauce tureens; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection. These magnificent antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a rectangular rounded form. The body of each tureen is plain and embellished with chased fluted decoration to the lower portion. The upper rim of each body is encompassed with a cast and applied gadroon decorated border. These impressive antique silver tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers ornamented with further chased decoration to the domed portion. The covers are surmounted with an impressive reed decorated handle enveloped with leaf designs to the terminals. Each example of Georgian silverware is fitted with two cast silver reed decorated handles, ornamented with lion mask terminals in junction with the body. Each tureen is supported by four impressive cast silver shaped legs with paw feet. These magnificent Georgian silver tureens, crafted by the renowned and important silversmiths Benjamin Smith II & James Smith III, are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire. Condition: These antique Georgian silver tureens are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each tureen, in addition to the part hallmarks to the rim of each cover and surface of the finials are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of Georgian silverware. The surface of each cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a falcon holding a partridge between her feet and encompassed with the belted motto 'Qui potest capere capiat', Let him who can take, take. Each Georgian tureen is fitted with two fine and original ring loop handles above an impressive lion mask ornamentation. Each tureen is supported by four impressive shaped legs with paw feet. These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a collet rim, in the classic English Adam style. The body of each tureen is plain and embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a demi-lion rampant, holding between the paws a lozenge. The rim and foot of each antique tureen is encompassed with applied reed decorated borders. These impressive sterling silver tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers surmounted with Adams style urn shaped finials. An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Swedish silver sauce tureens; an addition to our 18th century silverware collection These exceptional antique Swedish silver sauce tureens have a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a rectangular base and collet rim. The plain body of each antique sauce tureen is embellished with an impressive applied figural medallion to each side. The medallion to one depicts a female carrying an overflowing cornucopia and the other bears a seated female with a turtle to her feet; it can be determined that such an arrangement of figures relates to a historical event or folklore. The upper rim of each tureen is encompassed with applied bead decoration. These exceptional silver tureens retain the original push fit covers ornamented with further bead decoration and surmounted with an impressive cast silver organic acorn style finial. Each antique Swedish tureen is fitted with two impressive silver handles ornamented with a band of applied oval bead decoration to the upper portion.
