Antique Sterling Silver Gimbal Table Lighter

About the Item

An exceptional, fine, and impressive, antique George V English sterling silver gimbal table lighter; an addition to our smoking related silverware collection This exceptional antique George V sterling silver table lighter has a globular form to a rounded composite handle. The surface of the piece is plain and embellished with the contemporary bright cut engraved initial 'H' beneath a Baron's coronet. The centre of this antique silver table lighter is fitted with a cylindrical taper holder, allowing access to the wick. One side of this exceptional 20th century table lighter is fitted with an impressive composite handle, conjoining to the body via a sterling silver socket and gimbal fitment; this hinged device allows the piece to remain horizontal during transport. The arm of the piece bears the retailer's mark 'A. Barrett & Sons, 63 & 64 Piccadilly'. Condition This antique 20th century table lighter is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the gimbal and part hallmarks upper portion of the body are all very clear. This exceptional and rare antique George V English sterling silver inkwell has been realistically modelled in the form of a cat's head emerging from a shoe/boot.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George VI English sterling silver and enamel three piece dressing table set; part of our silverware collection. This impressive antique George V sterling silver and enamel dressing table set consists of a hand mirror, hair brush and clothes brush. Each piece of this ladies dressing table set is embellished with an exceptional panel of white guilloche enamel, accented with a repetitive blue geometric diaper pattern with gold lobed motifs to each incurve. The sterling silver body of each piece is embellished with embossed scrolling leaf designs to the upper and lower portions The antique hand mirror and hair brush have an arched shaped form to a rounded handle; each piece bears further scrolling leaf ornamentation to the lower corners of the arched sections. The handles of the hair brush and hand mirror are ornamented with an impressive panel of solid blue guilloche enamel. The rounded sides and anterior surface of this impressive mirror are plain and unembellished. The mirror retains its original shaped bevelled glass. The clothes brush has an elongated oval shaped form, with a sterling silver hallmarked handle. Each brush bears the engraved markings 'Pure Bristle' and retains the original authentic horse hair bristles. Condition: This antique enamel dressing table set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been has been professionally polished. The horse hair bristles to the brushes are in exceptional condition and have seen little sign of use or wear. The enamel panels are in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the rim of each brush and surface of the mirror are very clear; the hallmarks to the mirror have wear in keeping with age and location but remain legible. This inkstand is fitted with a hallmarked gallery, embellished with impressive panels of pierced angular diaper pattern decoration. The body of the sterling silver inkstand is ornamented with a gadroon decorated border to the rim. The internal frame of the Stand is divided into different sized compartments by pierced decorated dividers reflecting the same design to that of the body.
