Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot (1884)

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian sterling silver and cranberry coloured glass mustard pot; an addition to our Victorian silver cruets/condiments collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a cylindrical form. The large body of the mustard pot is embellished with pierced interlacing scrolling leaf decoration. The decoration to the body incorporates a cartouche ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a lion's head erased. The upper rim of this sterling mustard pot is ornamented with a cast and applied leaf decorated border accented with equidistant floral designs. This fine mustard pot retains the original hallmarked hinged domed cover surmounted with an impressive foliated finial and fleur-de-lis style thumbpiece. This antique piece is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with a leaf decorated thumbpiece. The mustard pot retains a desirable, removable cranberry coloured glass liner. This antique Victorian silver mustard pot is supported by impressive cast and applied bracket style feet, embellished with further foliated decoration. This exceptional mustard pot is supplied with an associate sterling silver spoon, crafted by London silversmith Charles Boyton (I) in 1848. This antique mustard pot was crafted by the renowned silversmiths John Aldwinckle & James Slater of Holland, Son & Slater. Condition This antique silver mustard pot is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and part hallmarks to the interior of cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the excellent gauge of silver. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mustard pot; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection. This exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a cylindrical-shaped form with a plain circular spreading foot. The body of the mustard pot is encircled with impressive chased shaped-bead designs, each accented with opposing scrolling borders and matte backgrounds; this is a highly desirable design. The decoration to the body includes impressive bands of bead decoration to the upper and lower portions, in addition to applied, moulded borders. This fine Victorian silver mustard pot retains the original hallmarked hinged cover surmounted with an impressive cast silver pierced decorated lobed thumbpiece. The surface of the cover is encircled with further chased bead design, composing a central vacant shaped cartouche to the upper plateau. This fine example of antique silverware is fitted with an impressive cast opposing scrolling handle accented with a leaf design to the handpiece. The mustard pot is fitted with the original removable clear glass liner. The cover retains the original gilding to the interior; this is a fine feature and indicates the high quality of the piece.
