Birks Sterling Silver Ladies Compact with Enamel Portrait & Guilloche Decoration

About the Item

This sterling silver ladies compact was made for the Birks retailer in presumably France in circa 1950. This compact features an enamel portrait done in the French Renaissance Revival style which is bordered by a vibrant pink guilloche enamel decoration. The back of the compact is also decorated with pink guilloche pattern. The hinges and clasp are in good working order as is the beveled mirror and the compact comes complete with its original powder puff. The compact is clearly signed with three small badges for "Sterling", "Silver", and "Birks" in script. Birks was known for its quality merchandise and would buy items both directly from crafts people and from estates and put their signature 'on it.
