About the Item

Hallmarked in London in 1773 by Charles Wright, this striking, antique George III, sterling silver cup and cover, features reed detailed loop handles and applied acanthus decoration. The cup bears an original engraved coat of arms for John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset, Lord Lieutenant of Kent and the British Ambassador to France during the lead up to the French Revolution. The Cup and Cover measures 19"(48cm) tall, by 12"(30cm) handle to handle, with a diameter of 8"(20cm) and weighs 81 troy ounces.

A spectacular set of three silver trophy cups in the George III style, one larger and a pair of smaller. Each has a removable lid with hand-chased acanthus leaf detail, a decoration which is also found round the bodies, and cast finial. The handles are realistically cast as sinuously entwined snakes, the heads of which are holding rings that appear to be supporting hand-chased drapes that hang round the body of each cup. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German sterling silver cup and cover; an addition to our antique presentation silverware collection. This exceptional antique German sterling silver cup & cover has a bulbous circular shaped form onto a shaped pedestal foot. The lobed body of the cup is embellished with chased decorated scenes incorporating: a putto raising a glass and playing a musical instrument, a stag, a unicorn and an elephant. The upper portion of the body is encompassed with a paralleling cast and applied stylised rope twist border, accented with a collet set round faceted cut gemstone to each incurve, with a scrolling leaf decorated bracket to the underside. This impressive presentation cup retains the original hallmarked cover, ornamented with a continuation of the leaf bracket to each incurve, in addition to a reflection of chased decorated scenes. The cover is surmounted with an exceptional cast figural finial comprised of a putto figure holding a glass and cluster of grapes, sat to a large plain ball. The impressive baluster shaped pedestal is encompassed to the upper portion with four semi-circular shaped bifurcating bracket designs, each accent with a further collet set gem. A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver cup & cover; an addition to our antique presentation silverware collection. This magnificent and large antique Edwardian sterling silver presentation cup and cover has a Campania shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot. The lower bulbous portion of the silver cup is encircled with chased fluted ornamentation. Either side of the plain upper portion of the body of this cup is embellished with an exceptional and large applied ribbon tied laurel branch wreath, replicating the border of a classic cartouche. This impressive Edwardian presentation cup retains the impressive, original hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an exceptional, fine and impressive cast sterling silver overlapping leaf and bud style finial. The rim of this substantial cover is encompassed with an impressive applied egg and dart decorated border. This antique cup and cover is fitted with two very impressive cast sterling silver handles modelled in the form of conjoined snakes, above a figural mask and Caduceus. The pedestal is encompassed with a shaped alternating leaf decorated knop to the upper portion in junction with the body. The circular domed spreading foot is encircled with a further band of chased fluted ornamentation. Such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
