About the Item
An exceptional and very impressive quality Arts & Crafts silver christening mug decorated with leaf designs by Holland Aldwinckle & Slater, London and dated 1900. The heavily made flower bud shaped mug is finely crafted standing raised on a round pedestal foot the lower body relief molded with overlaid leaves with the upper body with a hand hammered finish with an incised scrolling leaf border around the top rim. The mug has a solid scrolling raised handle overlaid with a molded leaf and the mug has impressed makers marks along with silver assay marks for London with date code for 1900.
Provenance: acquired from The British Art market.

This classic English sterling silver coffee set is a simplified, elegant piece of artistry dating from the Edwardian period of the early 20th century. The set contains two coffee pots, a milk jug and a sugar bowl and spoon, all of which are decorated in a consistently simple yet effective way.
The set is the work of the London-based firm Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater, a sought-after maker of luxury silverware in the 19th century. The firm was originally founded in 1838 by silversmith Henry Holland and would undergo several changes in name and ownership across the 19th century, before finally taking up the name of Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater in 1883.
