About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver spirit kettle made by John Samuel Hunt; an addition to our antique silver teaware collection. This antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a large baluster-shaped form. The surface of the kettle is embellished to the upper and lower portions with impressive bright cut engraved interlacing scrolling decoration accented with floral sprays. The decoration to this Victorian silver spirit kettle incorporates a cartouche to both side, one remains vacant and the other bears the contemporary engraved inscription: ‘Presented to Bro Alfred Pound P.P.G.O by The Wor. Master & Brethren in appreciation of his 25 Yrs esteemed service as Organist to The Gwalia Lodge of Freemasons, No. 4213’. This antique silver kettle is fitted with a flush hinged hallmarked cover encircled with further scrolling motifs; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece. The cover is surmounted with the original sterling silver finial encompassed with bright cut engraved scalloped decoration. This fine and large example of antique teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with impressive chased decorated leaf and scroll decorated terminals. The kettle detaches from the original hallmarked sterling silver stand, supported by three impressive opposing scrolling legs with chased leaf decorated feet. The upper portion of the stand is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved scrolling and floral decoration, reflecting the same style to that of the body. The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the original hallmarked detachable spirit burner. The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs. This exceptional spirit kettle was crafted by the notable and collectable silversmith John Samuel Hunt and bears the retailer’s mark ‘Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer’ to the underside of the kettle. Condition This antique Victorian silver spirit kettle is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. The chased decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the kettle and spirit burner, and part hallmarks to the stand, kettle handle and cover are all very clear. Dimensions Height to top of handle 44.6cm/17.6". An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver spirit kettle; an addition to our antique silver teaware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a melon shaped, incurved paneled form. Each segment of the paneled body is embellished with impressive alternating flat engraved designs incorporating quatrefoil motifs accented with bordered leaf ornamentation and a trellis pattern, all encompassed with a matte texture. The upper portion of the body is encircled with a flat engraved undulating border with applied moulded decoration to the scalloped rim. This antique silver kettle is fitted with a domed hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with the exceptional and original hallmarked sterling silver gourd shaped finial, securing to the interior with a wing nut. This fine example of Victorian teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with impressive cast S-scroll, leaf decorated terminals accented with large scrolling leaf decorated sockets in junction with the body. This solid silver kettle has a plain paneled swan necked spout with an impressive scalloped shaped socket accented with a paralleling border. This exceptional kettle detaches from the original hallmarked cast sterling silver Stand, supported by four impressive cast scrolling legs accented with further applied leaf ornamentation. The upper portion of the stand is encircled with impressive cast scrolling leaf ornamentation with a central floral design. The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the original spirit burner, reflecting the identical paneled form to the body and cover. The silver spirit kettle Stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs. An magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver spirit kettle made by Barnard & Sons Ltd, an addition to our antique silver teaware collection. This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a six paneled urn shaped form onto a hexagonal paneled spreading pedestal foot. The surface to this large spirit kettle is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved foliate festoons incorporating quatrefoil leaf motifs and suspended from rosette designs to each edge. The decoration to the body incorporates two oval cartouches, one of which remains vacant. The cartouche to the anterior surface is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of an antelope's head couped, charged on the neck with four mullets in cross, and holding in the mouth a rose, slipped and leaved, displayed below the motto 'Nil extra numerum'- Nothing is beyond reckoning up*. This magnificent and impressive antique Georgian sterling silver spirit kettle has a circular rounded form. The surface of the Georgian silver kettle is plain and embellished with a contemporary engraved coat of arms encompassed with a scrolling leaf decorated border/cartouche. This antique silver kettle is fitted with a plain flush hinged hallmarked cover; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece. The cover is surmounted with the original carved stained wood and sterling silver topped button style finial. This exceptional example of antique silver tea ware is fitted with the original hinged hand piece overlaid with interwoven wicker, strategically interlaced to produce a segmented braided design. The cast handle is further ornamented with scrolling decoration, in addition to substantial leaf sockets in junction with the body. The kettle is fitted with an impressive cast spout, accented with a scrolling design to the tip of the lip, in addition to moulded decoration to the lower portion.
