About the Item

Pair of trays. Silver. GONZÁLEZ DE LA CUEVA, Diego (assayer). Mexico City, second half of the 18th century. With contrast marks. Pair of oval silver trays in their own colour, each with two handles (decorated with faceted circular and vase-like shapes) and curved edges with mouldings creating gentle curves, counter curves and peaks (a decorative form often described as a profile of mitred curves that translate into ridges on the eaves). The hallmarks, present on both pieces, are found on the edge. The hallmarks correspond to the fiscal mark (the royal fifth), the locality mark, and the silversmith's mark. The pieces are therefore located in Mexico City, with Diego González de la Cueva as the master carver or assayer, whose pieces are preserved from the 1760s and 1770s (the fountain of the Concepción de la Orotava from 1760, the tray of the Caracas Cathedral, the frame of the painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, etc.). The tower mark has not been identified. Weight: 2,850 grams. · Size: 38,5x35x8 cm International Buyers – Please Note: for those articles that need Export Permits (those older than 100 years), the obtaining of the Permit will be processed without additional expenses (if you choose the seller sends it to you), but the period for the obtention of it may vary from 10 to 35 days.
