The Victorian period of furniture and decorative arts design encompasses Queen Victoria's reign from 1837 to 1901. While no single dominant style prevailed during this era, designers often drew inspiration from various historical styles such as Gothic, Tudor, Elizabethan, English Rococo, and Neoclassical. The Angell family, renowned British silversmiths of the 19th century, established their business in 1811 by Joseph Angell (senior), which thrived until the late 1880s. Originally hailing from Nantwich, Cheshire, Joseph Angell (senior) apprenticed in London in 1796, later establishing his own enterprise in Clerkenwell, a hub for silversmithing. In 1811, Joseph Angell (senior) was joined by his brother John Angell, and together they elevated the family business into one of London's premier silversmithing firms. Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, they produced an extensive range of silverware, jewelry, and decorative pieces, distinguished by their superior quality and elegant design. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London proudly showcases several silver objects crafted by Joseph Angell II. With its fine craftsmanship, exceptional quality, and remarkable condition, this antique 19th-century silver teapot is truly a collector's gem.
