About the Item

Irresistible 1930s Art Deco Wagner Ware Magnalite Teapot with Wood Handle This rare 1930s Wagner Ware Magnalite teapot is a celebrated icon of American Art Deco and Machine Age design, produced in Sidney, Ohio, by the Wagner Manufacturing Company. More than a simple vessel, it represents a moment when industrial design elevated everyday objects into sculptural works of art. As Town & Country notes, the Magnalite kettle “was never meant to be merely a vessel for boiling water; it was created to seduce you.” Commissioned during the Great Depression, when Wagner sought to invigorate sales, industrial designer John Gordon Rideout conceived this teapot with its sleek aluminum form, graceful curves, and perfectly balanced wood handle. Its friendly, modern silhouette has been described as “a smile wrought in metal,” embodying the optimism and streamlined elegance of the 1930s. The significance of this design is underscored by its inclusion in the Museum of Modern Art’s Architecture and Design Collection, where Rideout’s Magnalite kettle is recognized as one of the outstanding achievements of twentieth-century functional design. In this context, the teapot is not just cookware but a true design object, celebrated alongside the great works of modernism. The Wagner Manufacturing Company itself was founded in 1891 by Bernard and Milton Wagner in Sidney, Ohio. Originally producers of cast-iron cookware, the company quickly grew into one of the largest and most respected American manufacturers. By the 1930s, Wagner pioneered the use of a patented magnesium-aluminum alloy known as Magnalite, praised for both its durability and futuristic aesthetic. The introduction of the Magnalite line in 1934 cemented Wagner’s reputation for innovation and ensured that pieces like this teapot would become lasting design icons. This example remains in lovely vintage condition, with a soft patina, light surface wear, and signs of use to the base that attest to its history. The elegant curved wood handle is perfectly preserved, and the underside is stamped: “Wagner Ware, Sidney OH, Magnalite 413(3?)M”. For collectors of Art Deco design, American industrial history, or museum-worthy kitchenware, this teapot represents the perfect union of utility and beauty. Equally at home in a curated design collection or displayed as a functional work of art, it is an irresistible piece that has earned its place in the story of modern design.

1935 Pristine Art Deco Blue Hall China Ceramic Refrigerator Pitcher with Lid
By Hall China
Located in Red Lion, PA
1935 Art Deco Blue Hall China Refrigerator Pitcher with Lid – Made for Westinghouse, Museum Quality An exceptional example of American Art Deco kitchenware, this 1935 Art Deco refrigerator water pitcher was made exclusively for Westinghouse by the renowned Hall China Company of East Liverpool, Ohio. Stamped clearly on the base, the mark reads: “Made Exclusively for WESTINGHOUSE By / The Hall China Co. MADE IN U.S.A.”—a detail that speaks to the collaboration between innovative appliance manufacturers and American ceramic producers during the golden age of modern design. This pitcher showcases a curved geometric Art Deco silhouette, with smooth, streamlined contours and a functional yet elegant matching lid, both finished in a rich, vibrant solid blue glaze. The style reflects the modernist ideals of the period—sleek, stylish, and made for the evolving needs of 1930s households as refrigeration became a staple in American homes. Produced as part of a specialized line of refrigerator ware for Westinghouse, this pitcher would have been used to store and serve chilled water. Hall also created a range of complementary pieces, including leftover containers in coordinating styles and colors, making this part of a now highly collectible and historically significant body of work. What sets this piece apart is its pristine, museum-quality condition—appearing completely unused, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or signs of wear except the most minimal wear at the base. It's a truly rare find for collectors of vintage Hall China...
