About the Item

nton Michelsen, 4-piece Danish sterling silver tea and coffee set in elegant Art Deco style, consisting of: a coffee pot measuring 8 1/2''in height by 9 3/4'' from handle to spout a teapot measuring 6 1/2'' in height by 8 3/4'' from handle to spout a creamer measuring 3'' in height by 4 1/8'' from handle to spout a sugar bowl measuring 2 1/4'' in height by 3 1/8'' in depth Anton Michelsen (1809-1877) established one of the most important Danish jewelry families. In 1830, after completing his education in Odense, he moved to Copenhagen where, during the next eleven years, he worked for various young masters. Michelsen took courses at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked in Berlin in the 1830s. In 1841 Anton Michelsen opened his workshop in Gothersgade in Copenhagen and in 1848 was officially appointed to the Royal Danish Court as "Court Goldsmith and Maker of Orders". Anton Michelsen died in 1877 and his son Carl Michelsen took over the firm. Carl became a court jeweler in 1880 obtaining important commissions from Danish Court. At the beginning of the 20th century, Johan Rhode, a designer for famed maker Georg Jensen, also worked with Michelsen. Please feel free to ask us any questions, and please see our other listings.
