About the Item

A most charming fine quality antique Victorian era object of vertu magnifying glass, custom made from various earlier elements. English refinement, sophistication, and Victorian elegance at its finest, handmade at the turn of the late 19th / early 20th century, this one-of-a-kind object of vertu comprised of a 19th century hand carved ivory figural parasol handle, the exquisite carving rather diminutive in size adding to its delicate elegance, depicting a greyhound whippet dog head, retaining the original inset glass eyes; affixed to a contrasting banded collar on an exotic malacca wood shaft that was shortened and adapted from an early parasol or possibly walking stick cane; mounted with a circular metal framed magnifying glass lens. A superb example of both functional art and folk art, this unique piece makes for a useful desk / table article, reading accessory, interesting curiosity, decorative sculptural object, or thoughtful gift idea!
