About the Item

This fine figure, from the Luba/Kusu culture in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, dates back to the early twentieth-century or before, to the nineteenth-century. The carved figure displays a pronounced head, exaggerated in size with a pair of large coffee-bean shaped eyes, with both arms resting on its stomach. Crowning the figure's head are a cluster of empowered horns, and the figure's midriff has been adorned with a strand of glass beads. Exhibiting a thick, oily surface patina, the figure 'sweats' oil in warmer temperatures. Height (Incl. Custom-Made Stand): 36.5cm Height (Excl.
