At the Tenth Milan Triennial in 1954, Finland received the largest relative proportion of available prizes. A new era had begun: the 1950s and 1960s became known as the golden age of Finnish design, a title that is well deserved as evidenced by this beautiful mid-century pendant lamp. Minimalism has always been at the heart of Finnish design, with the philosophy that every element should serve a purpose without unnecessary embellishment. Finnish lighting fixtures continue to represent this idea through clean lines, geometric shapes and understated elegance. This lamp is a timeless example of the enduring appeal of Finnish mid-century design. The lamp's design was developed around its delicate and angular structure. Suspended from a sleek rod that extends from the ceiling canopy, the lamp features an open-frame outline resembling a diamond shape. This frame, made of thin, elegant brass, forms the primary visual element of the piece and gives it the highlight it deserves. It is the bulb's warm glow that further complements the brass frame, enhancing the overall golden shine. In 1953, Lindeman took part in a competition of lighting fixtures, announced by the Idman company. This competition resulted in a full-time job as the Idman’s artistic designer The Idman company at that time was the biggest lighting manufacturer in Finland, exporting lighting fixtures globally, and Lindeman’s designs varied to include both modern and classical forms. During the 1950s and 1960s, Lindeman became one of the voices in constructing Finnish modernism, a participating member in the formulation of the Golden Age of Finnish design.
