About the Item

Considered the rarest piece of Georg Jensen on the open market and perhaps in the world; The original Georg Jensen silver six light chandelier #307, designed by Johan Rohde in 1918. Georg Jensen's first retail store in Bredgade 21 did not reflect the growing prestige of the brand and their largest customer of the time, swede Nils Wendel, insisted on a renovation. Johan Rohde was tasked with designing the interior and he designed all of the fittings, panels, counters and furniture including this chandelier. Electricity was becoming predominant in Copenhagen by this time, Rohde wanted an electrified chandelier to be at the center of the store. The design is breathtaking, this large piece has signs of Art Nouveau as well as early signs of Art Deco. The large hand-hammered circular dome base has grapes, beads and elements of Rhodes famous Cosmos pattern. There are six hand-chased light sockets, the chandelier hangs on six silver chains each mounted to an acorn and floral element, reminiscent of Rohde's Acorn silverware pattern from 1915. The chains are separated by a middle section which also has the same acorn and floral elements and attachments to keep the chains in place. The top is a hand-chased large ceiling mount, with signs of Rohde's cosmos pattern and sections joined with large beads. Dimensions: Height: 30" x Diameter 22" (77cm x 56cm). Approximate weight 240oz (6.8kg). Hallmarks: Marked with period Georg Jensen hallmarks, 830s and with Johan Rohde's design monogram. Provenance: This chandelier hung in the Georg Jensen flagship store for many years, it was eventually moved to the Georg Jensen museum. It was purchased by Danish Silver from the Georg Jensen Museum circa 2011 and sold to a private collector. This chandelier has featured in several magazine articles, including QANTAS in-flight magazine, My Lifestyle News and Macaron.

Georg Jensen Antique Silver Candelabra #93
By Georg Jensen

A pair of antique Danish silver Georg Jensen candelabra, design #93 by Georg Jensen in 1918. The meticulous silversmithing showcased in these candelabra is truly remarkable, adorned with an abundance of intricately chased floral motifs and delicate beads. The fabrication process would have required a significant amount of time and skill, as each detail was carefully crafted by hand. Each candelabrum stands on a large round base supported by five elegantly designed feet resembling berries or buds. The hand-hammered stem is exceptionally thick, contributing to the overall grandeur of the design. Two gracefully curved arms extend from the stem, holding a substantial sconce...
