Rare Arts & Crafts Pendant Lamp with Embossed Swans and Water Lilies – Copper & Glass, circa 1920
With early 20th-century lighting being one of our specialties, discovering this rare and extraordinary pendant truly made our day. This one-of-a-kind Arts and Crafts fixture exemplifies the harmony of artistic craftsmanship and organic design that defines the movement.
The gallery is handcrafted from solid copper with a beautiful natural patina, and it features a stunning repoussé design of swans gliding across stylized water, surrounded by embossed water lilies and lily pads. These finely worked decorative elements reflect the early 20th-century fascination with nature, symbolism, and serene, flowing forms.
The original glass shade is just as striking — featuring a deeply embossed floral motif in frosted glass. The number of flowers, their detailed rendering, and their symmetrical spread are among the finest we have seen in a shade of this period, adding an extra level of refinement and rarity to the piece.
Suspended from a large matching canopy, the pendant hangs on three beautifully twisted copper ribbon chains that are entirely original and in superb condition. The canopy itself echoes the floral theme, with stylized lotus flower detailing around the central finial, uniting the top and bottom elements into a coherent, sculptural whole.

Stunning mineral stone pendant with wonderful colors in a unique brass frame.
The designer and artist who created this Arts & Crafts work of lighting art must have been inspired by the wonderful colors that mother nature has to offer in the late afternoons and evenings in the summer. Especially the copper red light that the sun creates when disappearing under the horizon seems the source of inspiration for this artist. With the colors in this particular alabaster shade AND in the brass 'frame' corresponding with the marvelous colors at sundown this one of a kind pendant really is a joy to own and to look at. In our experience it is also at that time of day that swallows are the most active. Just like the embossed swallows in this shade we too have seen them circling above and around a swimming pool in the Canary Islands. By the way, the workmanship that has gone into hand-crafting this remarkable chandelier is of a level that you don't find anymore in this day and age. Never mind the amount of time it must have taken to first hand-draw and then completely hand-craft this gem. We have said it many times before and we will say it again here: both with the light switched on and off, the colors in this alabaster shade are much warmer and much more beautiful than in our photos. You can take our word for it. Because of the many colors and 'patches' one could also say that this pendant (when looking at it from different sides and angles) has many faces. That too is the beauty of surrounding yourself with truly natural materials.
