About the Item

Vilhelm Lauritzen VL 45 'Radiohus' Pendant Ø250 in Brass and Pale Yellow Glass. New, current production. The VL 45 Radiohus Pendant was originally designed by Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for his gesamtkunstwerk at the Danish Broadcasting House, also known as Radiohuset. The original design from the 1940s features a brass suspension and milky-white mouthblown three-layer glass shade, a classic and elegant combination, which was reintroduced by Louis Poulsen in 2016. Mouth-blown coloured glass with white innerside. Pendant fitting: Brushed brass. Canopy: Yes. Cord length: 4 m. Cord type: White fabric. Please note that the brass surfaces are untreated. This means that the surface will change over time and develop a patina. The fixture provides uniform, general and diffused illumination. The opening at the bottom of the glass produces downwards directed light. The quality of the mouth blown pale rose opal glass ensures that the fixture is evenly lit. Vilhelm Lauritzen Vilhelm Lauritzen is a key figure in the history of Danish architecture. He firmly believed that there’s no life without aesthetics, a principle, which is evident in all his work, whether involving buildings or light fittings. He also believed architecture should be applied art for everyone, rather than a privilege reserved for a select few. Vilhelm Lauritzen understood both natural and artificial light, and he consistently worked diligently to shape light and shadow by strategically placing windows in a building to enhance the experience of its users. He applied the same thoughtfulness and diligence to his lamp designs, combining direct illumination with softer, delicate illumination to create defined shadows and diffuse light, effectively softening and shading spaces. Lauritzen had a remarkable ability to create a pleasant ambience with light, as exemplified in Radiohuset. He not only designed the light fixtures specifically for the building, but was also responsible for the overall design of Radiohuset. These fixtures were first included in Louis Poulsen catalogues in the mid 1940s and are still available today. Vilhelm Lauritzen was enormously inspired by nature. This was where he felt he could relax. He was particularly interested in butterflies and spent countless hours building an extraordinary collection, which he gifted to the University of Copenhagen Zoological Museum. Vilhelm Lauritzen once said that had he not become an architect, he would probably have become a zoologist.

Poul Henningsen PH5 Mini Pendant in Brass for Louis Poulsen
By Louis Poulsen, Poul Henningsen
Located in Tilburg, NL
Poul Henningsen PH5 mini pendant for Louis Poulsen. Designed 1958, Mini in 2017. New, current production. Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes made to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers, naming it after the size of the pendant’s main shade, which is 50 cm in diameter. When the lamp was introduced, he wrote, typically daringly, about how he had lost faith that the manufacturers of incandescent light bulbs would ever learn to consider common sense or have the consumer’s best interest at heart: “I have accepted fate, and with Louis Poulsen's permission I have designed a PH fixture, which can be used with any kind of light source, Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs. Although a fluorescent tube would be too much to ask in the existing form!” At the time, now one knew that the PH 5 would become synonymous with the PH light...
