Vintage Industrial Metal Floor Lamp Komet 1557 from Kosta Lampan, 1970s
By Per Sundstedt
Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
This Komet 1557 floor lamp was designed by Per Sundstedt for the Swedish manufacture Kosta Lampan AB during the 1970s. This lamp is made of metal: chrome-plated and black. It has a height adjustment system in the range of 108-140 cm. The T-shaped base with wheels is made of metal. The movable shade makes it easy to change the direction of the light. Per Sundstedt is considered one of Sweden's most creative lighting designers. He graduated from Konstfack in Stockholm in 1964. His diploma thesis was a bedside lamp with mechanical dimming, which he called Candela 1. Upon graduation, he was awarded the silver medal of the Swedish Crafts Association, which was considered the greatest award a student could receive. He got a job at Lampan (later Kosta Lampan, acquired by AB Fagerhult...

Zero LED Hoop Pendant by Front Design
By Front Design, ZERO Lighting
Located in Yonkers, NY
The Hoop pendant incorporates a metal cage-like frame made up of eight wires. Inside the frame, a globe-shaped glass diffuser rests at the bottom. The minimalist design and organic shape of this fixture is achieved by having the electrical wire fed inside one of the eight wires that make up the exterior frame. Anyone who has been immersed in the upper echelons of the design world has been hearing the buzz about Sweden’s avant-garde Front Design for a while now. Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken and Anna Lindgren are the members of the talented trio racking up awards as fast as they can complete new designs. Their portfolio is chock-full of accolades—Red Dot awards, Elle Decoration International Design Awards (EDIDA), Wallpaper Design Awards, “Best of the Best” awards, A&W awards, and a “Design of the Year” award from the Design Museum of London. Their designer statement says their works are based upon common discussions, explorations and experiments that they undertake as they begin the process of creation. It is the story of this process itself that they hope their objects will communicate—the materials used and the conventions within the design field, for instance. But they also reach into more mystical realms, creating objects from witnessed explosions; designing products that serve as an homage to animals, computers and machines; envisioning robotic furniture; and dreaming up objects inspired by their fascination with magic. Global Lighting...

Neoclassical Alabaster Torch Sconces
Located in New York, NY
These pure white sconces sit upon torch like bases, illuminating the room in the fusion of classical and romantic forms, typical of the neoclassical period. Alabaster lighting was the first used electrical lighting in Europe, prized for its ability to softly diffuse light. As mentioned above, the Neo-Renaissance style was in reality an eclectic blending of past styles, which the architect selected on the whims of his patrons. In the true Renaissance era there was a division of labour between the architect, who designed the exterior highly visible shell, and others—the artisans—who decorated and arranged the interior. The original Italian mannerist house was a place for relaxation and entertaining, convenience and comfort of the interior being a priority; in the later Baroque designs, comfort and interior design were secondary to outward appearance. This was followed by the Neoclassical period, which gave importance to the proportions and dignity of interiors, but still lost the comfort and internal convenience of the mannerist period. It was during the Neo-Renaissance period of the 19th century that the mannerist comforts were re-discovered and taken a step further. Not only did the improved building techniques of the 1850s allow the glazing of formerly open loggias and arches with the newly invented sheets of plate glass, providing the first "picture windows", but also the blending of architectural styles allowed interiors and exteriors to be treated differently. It was at this time that the concept of "furnishing styles" manifested itself, allowing distinctions to be made between interior rooms...
