About the Item

“Venus favors the bold.” —Ovid The Abalone Library Lamp is the 11th release from the Venus Collection, a whimsical family of handmade fixtures inspired by the Surrealists and natural forms of the sea. Employing the latest advances in cool-to-the-touch LED technology, the collection features table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces made with hand-selected specimen seashells in place of traditional shades, putting the organic source material behind so much 20th century modernism front and center. Model No. 034 was designed to pair well with the Abalone Lawyer's Lamp, but looks equally smart on its own. Standing 53.5” tall, it consists of a graduated base composed of two terra cotta-tinted cast-plaster discs, a hand-wrapped papercord-and-leather column, and a cantilevered shade crafted from a rare, upcycled vintage Red Abalone seashell with a green-hued, mother-of-pearl interior, sourced from a California collector. Fully adjustable heavy-duty swivels at the top and bottom of the column allow for fine-tuning of the shade angle and overall silhouette. Unfinished brass hardware, a khaki cloth-covered cord, 1940s-style plug, and Bakelite push-button switch complete the elegant profile of this hard-working, all-natural beauty.
