Modernist 'Abalone Lawyer's Lamp' with Real Vintage Abalone Seashell Shade

Introducing the Abalone Lawyer’s Lamp, the third release from the Fall 2023 Venus Collection, a whimsical new family of handmade fixtures inspired by the Surrealists and the natural forms of the sea. Employing the latest advances in cool-to-the-touch LED technology, the collection features table lamps and wall sconces made with hand-selected vintage specimen seashells in place of traditional shades, putting the organic source material behind so much 20th century modernism front and center.
You don’t need to pass the bar to appreciate Model No. 020, which borrows its utilitarian form from the ubiquitous, green-shaded table lamps found in law firms and libraries the world over.
Standing 19” tall, it consists of a graduated base composed of two terra cotta-tinted cast-concrete discs, a hand wrapped paper-cord column, and a cantilevered shade crafted from a rare, upcycled vintage Red Abalone seashell with a golden-hued, mother-of-pearl interior, sourced from a California collector.
Fully adjustable heavy-duty swivels at the top and bottom of the column allow for fine-tuning of the shade angle and overall silhouette. Unfinished brass hardware, a khaki cloth-covered cord, 1940s-style plug, and Bakelite push-button switch complete the elegant profile of this hard-working, all-natural beauty.
Made-to-order by hand in a numbered, signed edition by artist Christopher Tennant.
