A Palatial Pair of French 19th/20th Century Neoclassical Revival Style Ebonized Cast-Iron and Parcel-Gilt Torcheres (torchières - Lamp Posts). The park-like torcheres surmounted with later three-form metal Lumières with bakelite mounted shades emanating from scroll branches above foliate decorated tapered columns resting on caged pierced openwork square bases, applied with parcel-gilt foliate shields, swags, ribbons and wreaths. Circa: Paris, 1900. A truly beautiful and impressive pair of floor lights. They may be used indoor or outdoor. The ebonized and gilt were recently restored. The top part is later and not iron. Special handling is required due to size and weight.

This model of lamp, without pedestal, was invented by the Regency lamp-manufacturer James Smethurst of New Bond Street, whose registered mark of post-1814 has been recorded on period examples.
