André-Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814) was a French sculptor in bronze and was made a master founder in 1777 setting up in business 1790. Although Ravrio enjoyed success during Louis XVI’s reign, he achieved far greater fame under Napoleon. He took part in the first Exposition de l’Industrie, Paris, 1803 and then won a silver medal there in 1806. The same year he supplied a number of bronze furnishings for the Empress Joséphine’s apartments in the Tuileries and in 1810 was appointed as the Emperor’s chief bronzier. In this capicity he supplied some of the finest Empire bronze pieces, girandoles, candelabras and lamps as well as ornate furniture...

Since its establishment in 1860, the Maison Baguès has been an emblem of French sophistication in luxury lighting design. Each piece the firm makes is hand assembled using traditional techniques, in order to emphasize the elegance and excellence of their detailed artisanal work. Still the epitome of savoir-faire, Maison Baguès’ luxurious pieces are prized for their craftsmanship, beauty and harmony. The master metalsmith Noël Baguès founded the company as specialists in liturgical bronzes, but by 1880 the company had expanded into the production of bronze light fixtures in response to the development of electrical lighting. A highly important pair of seven-light cut-glass and silvered mounted early Victorian wall lights of exceptionally size the main stem with two flute cut receiver bowls separated by flute cut-glass tube .The upper receiver plate supporting three notched half hoop candle arms terminating with flute cut multi notched drop hung drip pans the upper receiver bowl terminating with a feather cut finial. The lower receiver plate supporting four larger notched half hoop candle arms also terminating with drop hung drip pans the lower receiver plate surmounted by trumpet shaped flute cut stem piece and drop hung canopy terminating with a notched stem and lapidary cut finial.
The wall lights are of exceptional quality throughout and are extremely rare.
