About the Item

An exceptional and hard-to-find pair of hand-blown wall sconces designed by Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso in the late 1930s — a rare example of early sculptural Murano lighting with a bold ornamental vocabulary. The shades are crafted in thick, festooned Murano glass — each one blown by hand rather than in a mold, giving rise to natural asymmetries, bubbles, and small internal irregularities that reveal their artisanal origin. The form evokes a blooming floral corolla, full of light and texture. Mounted on a minimal yet elegant cylindrical brass bracket, the contrast between the luminous transparency of the glass and the warm, aged metal creates a refined sense of timeless drama. The brass structure — with subtle Art Deco cues — retains a beautifully mellow patina that enhances the overall presence of the pieces. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Glass is intact, with no chips or cracks — only minor internal imperfections consistent with hand-blown work. The metal frame shows signs of age and surface wear (see photos), but nothing that affects function or beauty. Dimensions: H 20 cm × W 18 cm × D 20 cm (7.87 × 7.08 × 7.87 inches) A highly decorative and collectible set — sculptural, poetic, and unmistakably Murano. Museum-worthy and highly collectible, these sconces are a testament to the poetic rigor and material mastery of Ercole Barovier in its most refined era.
