About the Item

Stilnovo wall lamp by Luciano Colantonio from the 1950s. Product in good condition with small signs of wear caused by age and use. Stilnovo is one of the key names in twentieth-century Italian design, particularly in lighting. Founded in 1946 in Milan by Bruno Gatta, Stilnovo has become a point of reference for formal and technological innovation in the field of lighting, in an Italy that, in the post-war period, was reinventing itself through art, architecture and industry. Since the early years, the company has stood out for its modern, rational approach, deeply linked to function, but always attentive to aesthetics. Stilnovo has collaborated with some of the brightest minds in Italian and international design, including Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Joe Colombo, Ettore Sottsass, Cini Boeri, Gae Aulenti and Danilo and Corrado Aroldi. Their designs for Stilnovo have marked eras and influenced subsequent generations. In the 1950s and 1960s in particular, Stilnovo embodied the new elegance of Italian design: light, geometric, sometimes playful, often futuristic lamps that seemed suspended between craftsmanship and industry. Many iconic pieces - such as the "Periscope" by Danilo and Corrado Aroldi or the "Megaphone" - are now sought after by collectors around the world and present in international museums and exhibitions. After a period of silence, the brand was relaunched in the 2000s, and more recently acquired by the Linea Light group, with the aim of reviving its heritage through faithful re-editions and new collections that keep the Stilnovo spirit alive: innovation, quality, lightness, formal intelligence. Talking about Stilnovo means talking about an idea of light as a cultural project, and not simply as a light source. It is a name that represents the best of Italy: the one that looks to the future starting from solid creative and industrial roots.

Murano glass pendant lamp by Carlo Nason, 60s
By Carlo Nason
Located in Catania, IT
Mid-Century Shamrock Murano pendant. Model Cascata byy Carlo Nason for Mazzega, Italy 1960s Rare green color. For the Cascata (Italian for “waterfall”), which debuted in the 1960s, Nason achieved the effect of cascading water through an inverted pyramid of hanging glass plates, each individually mouth-blown and suspended from a chrome-plated frame for a dazzling, Art Deco–styled display. Lit from behind, the plates have a glittering, iridescent quality. Versions of the lamp range from 30 inches to over six feet in height, with large models featuring more than 20 individual light sockets. Nason, who continues to live and work in Murano today, would go on to produce artful lighting for Mazzega until at least 1980. While Mazzega 1946 offers contemporary editions of Nason’s design — now called “Water Fall” — vintage examples of the Cascata chandelier...
