French, Bronze Lamp by Achille Collas after Jean Goulon's Caryatids

About the Item

For your consideration is this French bronze réduction mécanique of Jean Goulon's caryatids at the Louvre. The bronze rests upon a black marble base and is topped by a candelabra with wood faux candles. The ruched fabric shade has a 4" fringe and creates a moody warm glow. Also available without shade at a discounted price. Achille Collas (1795–1859) was a French engineer, inventor, writer and engraver who in 1836 invented a pantograph-like machine to copy sculptures at a smaller scale, the so-called "réduction méchanique."

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. Marble has small chips. One bottom finial of the candelabra is missing and one has been replaced. Shade is old but not original and has overall fading, tears, and discoloration to inside as pictured.
