Porta Romana
The Porta Romana company designs custom lighting for galleries, hotels and homes. The meticulous care with which each piece of lighting is crafted shows through in the elaborate sculpting and glasswork of its table lamps and wall lights.
Porta Romana began in 1988 in a small workshop in London, founded by designers Andrew and Sarah Hills. They held the ideal of creating breathtaking lighting fixtures that would last a lifetime and beyond.
Collectors took notice of Porta Romana’s impressive work, and its clientele grew. In 2018, the Royal Academy of Arts in London commissioned Porta Romana to create an installation. The company placed two magnificent starburst pendant lights in a public staircase outside the academy president’s office.
The company collaborates with masters in their respective crafts, from glassmakers to metal shapers. Its designers have built relationships with these makers, so they are able to provide informed input in producing the individual parts that comprise each finished piece.
Still located in London, Porta Romana continues to work closely with clients and artisans to create spectacular custom lighting pieces for customers across the world.
