About the Item
A fine English Chippendale-period carved giltwood mirror. Mid-18th century, circa 1760.
The design dates from the height of the eighteenth-century rococo fashion in England. The frame with acanthus leaf top, supported on ‘c’ scrolls and crisply carved acanthus leaves. The apron is decorated with ‘c’ scrolls and acanthus leaves to match.
The frame retains its lovely soft water gilding, with the warm red ground visible. Fitted with a later but old mirror plate with wonderfully atmospheric foxing.
