Large carved and gilded supporting mirror from the Umbertine period
About the Item
Monumental standing mirror, 1870ca. Burin-engraved frame containing mirror against which the rich carvings rest, in the base two winged sphinxes contrast each other while at the apex of the uprights two more caryatids hold a festoon of flowers and leaves that rest on repeated architectural elements. On the cymatium a triton holds two flower festoons. The whole surface is golden. There are clearly Umbertine elements in which the new Art Nouveau style is also discernible.
