Revolver Hand Carved Nephrite Jade Life-Size .357 Magnum
About the Item
A life-sized .357 Magnum revolver carved entirely by hand from one piece of natural nephrite jade. I'm a second-generation jade collector, so it isn't often I come across something that is wildly, off-the-charts unique but here we are. I've never seen another.
I almost feel like I should just stop writing here. Because, what can I possibly add to the appeal of this eccentric treasure? I mean, a life-sized .357 rendered in jade is just not a thing you come across in life.
This one was hand-carved in America. The grip is deeply carved into non-slip texture, along with all the other little details you'd expect to see. I've even pictured it beside (well, above) the real thing so you can see for yourself: Darn, that's good.
So, the single thing I don't love is that whoever carved this -and I have absolutely no idea who created it- applied a coat of varnish when they were done. They didn't know that jade does not need the "protection" of varnish because it is the toughest gemstone, and non-permeable by all but the most powerful acids. It really ought to have been finished with a coat of wax. On the plus side, it will always have its high-gloss shine. Plus, it's not jewelry, so ultimately, who cares that they varnished it? Plus, it's a life-sized .357 magnum carved out of jade.
If you're a gun lover, or collector of curiosities, this is for you. Full stop.
