1957-1962, Rare Georges Braque 'Au Vent d'Arles' Archive Books and Lithographs

About the Item

Extremely rare set of Georges Braque archives maquettes books and lithographs created with the publisher 'Au Vent d'Arles', Paris. The set is composed with: - L'Ordre des Oiseaux ( Georges Braque and Saint-John Perse, 'Au Vent d'Arles', Paris, 1962) Two maquettes books with a portfolio including two etchings in color originally made for the book, on hand made paper from 'Moulin Richard de Bas'. Dimensions: 16.5 W x 21.2 L inches (42 H x 54 L cm) for the etchings (Pictures 3 and 4) It is very rare and interesting to see the 'Chemin de Fer' (Conductor of the book) and all the notes that could be used in the process of making a book of Bibliophilie. We know that Georges Braque was very involved in the making of books and how precise and demanding he was before he gave his agreement to press. - "Espaces", (Preface by Andre Verdet, Text by Daniel Jacomet, 'Au Vent d'Arles', Paris, 1957) Two Maquettes Lithographs in stencil on hand made paper from 'Moulin Richard de Bas', extracted from the Portfolio "Espace". One is called 'Le Canard', and the other one 'Les Oiseaux Noirs'. Both Signed in Plate. Dimensions: 15.7 W x 19.3 L (40cm H x 49 cm L) inches for both Lithographs (Pictures 9 and 10). The publishing house 'Au Vent d'Arles' was directed by Jeanine Crémieux. Married for a time with the journalist of the French paper 'L'Humanité' Francis Crémieux, its editorial activity was relatively confidential and included mainly artists and poets like Edouard Pignon, Paul Eluard, Pablo Neruda, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Saint-John Perse was a French poet-diplomat, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1960 "for the soaring flight and evocative imagery of his poetry". Very rare items with a provenance from the private collection of Heger de Loewenfeld, Co-author with Georges Braque of 'Bijoux de Braque'.
