About the Item
This is an antique arts book, Royal Academy - An Artistic Joke by Harry Furniss. An English language, bound gallery exhibition catalogue, dating to the late Victorian period, 1888.
A noted Anglo-Irish illustrator, Harry Furniss (1854 - 1925) provided content for the Illustrated London News, and later employed by the satirical magazine Punch. Furniss was also requested to illustrate Lewis Carroll's novel Sylvie and Bruno in 1889. Contributing well over 2000 illustrations to the cause, his most famous humorous works were for the aforementioned Punch magazine. Royal Academy - An Artistic Joke, is a work of 'pour rire' (in jest) featuring images in the spirit of sending up contemporary Victorian artists, and reproduced in this limited edition title alongside the illustrated catalogue.
