Maxime Old Architecte-Decorateur

About the Item

Maxime Old Architecte-Decorateur. Published by Norma Editions, Paris, 2000. Maxime Old was one of the leading furniture makers and designers in France from the mid-1930s-the 1980s. He was born into a long line of cabinet makers and as a young man he joined the famed workshop of Jacques Emile Ruhlman where he worked until 1934. Old opened his own shop on the Avenue Hoch in Paris from which he established a style that defined the new Era of modern French design with an emphasis on elegant craft and technical simplicity that broke away from the more cumbersome prevailing Art Deco style. In this book Yves Badetz provides the authoritative French language reference for Maxime Old. Hardback first edition in illustrated dust jacket. Archive photographs show individual pieces in original room settings. Handsomely illustrated throughout in colour and black and white with many full page plates. Bibliography. 320 pp.
