About the Item

19th Century French Napoleon III Period Mahogany Prie Dieu ~ Prayer Kneeler is a stunning example of devotional art! Rendered from exotic imported mahogany, it features a generous padded elbow rest on top, and luxurious scrolls and foliates comprising the upright portion, centered with a beautiful cross embellished with rose garlands and acanthus plumes. The kneeler is angled slightly, upholstered in the same fabric as the elbow pad, and supported by subtly scrolled apron and legs. Light in weight and certainly visually striking, it can easily be moved anywhere in the home in an instant, and was designed to provide decade after decade of daily use. Circa 1870s Measures 34H x 18.5W x 16.5D.
