19th Century French Napoleon III Carved Mahogany Prayer Bench with Green Velvet
About the Item
Place this elegant antique prayer chair in a bedroom for your daily devotions! Crafted in France, circa 1870, the traditional mahogany kneeler sits on scrolled feet over a scalloped apron decorated with a carved shell and foliage. The chair with a wide and cushioned seat features a tall back decorated with carved foliate motifs including acanthus leaf decor on the sides. The armrest, back and seat are dressed with a green velvet upholstery, and embellished with decorative nail heads. The Napoleon III worship "Prie-Dieu" (French for Praying God) is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich dark walnut patina. Slight color stain on the armrest.
