Large 19th Century Processional Sunburst with Crown

About the Item

An incredible processional sunburst/cross, wooden rays emanate from the central image of the Virgin Mary set behind glass, topped with a metal crown and cross. The sunburst is set within a pole that would have been carried aloft during religious processions. The pole is in two parts so this could be displayed at two different heights. You can see the extra length of pole leaning next to the fixed pole in the photos. There are historic repairs to some of the rays, 3 have been re-attached due to historical breakage. The original gilt finish shines through the white painted surface that is worn back in places. Wear with use and age obvious in photos. Obviously this item is old and has been well used in religious ceremony, therefore age related wear and upkeep is apparent.
